WISCONSIN — The first real taste of winter continues this morning across northeast Wisconsin, where bursts of lake-effect snow are sweeping across fields, forest roads, and coastal towns along Lake Michigan. In Door County, steady flakes are coating rooftops and highways, with visibility dropping quickly in the heaviest snow bands. Drivers heading toward Sturgeon Bay, Algoma, or Sister Bay should prepare for slick pavement and low visibility during the early commute.

The National Weather Service in Green Bay has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of Vilas and Door Counties, in effect through this morning and afternoon. Accumulations will remain modest—generally under an inch inland, with localized totals up to 2 inches near the lakeshore—but the combination of gusty northwest winds and freezing pavement could still make travel tricky.

As the snow tapers later today, colder air will linger, keeping highs near the mid-30s with a biting wind chill in the 20s. By Veterans Day Tuesday, skies clear and temperatures rebound into the low 40s, offering a calmer stretch for local parades and ceremonies.

Midweek brings sunshine and milder air, with highs near 50°F by Thursday, perfect for late-fall yard work or early holiday decorating. But long-range models hint at another “winter tease” toward the end of next weekend—perhaps a stronger front bringing colder air and light snow to northern Wisconsin just before Thanksgiving travel ramps up.

For now, the Badger State wakes under a gray, wintry sky—snowflakes on the wind and the first hint of winter whispering across the lakeshore.
