New York, NY – Fire weather concerns are rising across New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island as dry and windy conditions set the stage for an increased risk of wildfire spread on Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), relative humidity levels are expected to drop to between 25% and 40% in affected areas, while wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph. These conditions create an environment where fires can ignite and spread rapidly, particularly in regions where snow cover has already melted.

In New York, the highest fire risk will be in the Hudson Valley, Finger Lakes, and Southern Tier regions, where humidity will hover around 30% and winds could gust between 15 and 30 mph. The New York Department of Environmental Conservation advises residents to use extreme caution with ignition sources such as cigarettes, machinery, and matches.

Connecticut and Massachusetts will also see increased wildfire danger, especially inland areas away from the immediate coast. In Rhode Island, the fire risk is highest in the northern and central parts of the state.

Officials urge residents to be cautious and follow local fire safety guidelines. For more information on wildfire prevention, visit the New York Department of Environmental Conservation website.
