Johnson City, TN – The National Weather Service in Morristown has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Johnson, Unicoi, and Southeast Carter counties, in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
Forecasters expect snow accumulations of up to 1 inch in lower elevations, with up to 3 inches possible in the mountains. Snow will develop overnight and continue through Monday afternoon, tapering off by evening.
The system is expected to create slick and snow-covered roads, especially in higher elevations such as Shady Valley, Roan Mountain, and the Unaka Range. Both the Monday morning and evening commutes may be impacted by slippery travel and reduced visibility.
Residents and travelers across Erwin, Mountain City, Hampton, and Trade should use caution while driving, particularly on mountain passes and secondary roads.
The National Weather Service advises motorists to slow down and allow extra travel time. Updated road information is available through Tennessee 511.
