Monticello, NY – Drivers across the Catskills and Northeast Pennsylvania could face snow-packed highways by midday Sunday as a winter storm threatens to drop up to a foot of snow before Monday’s commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Sunday morning through Monday evening for Delaware and Sullivan counties in New York and for Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne, Pike, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties in Pennsylvania. Snow totals between 6 and 12 inches are possible, with wind gusts up to 35 mph creating blowing snow and reduced visibility.

In New York, steady snowfall is expected to expand across Monticello, Delhi and Walton late Sunday morning, becoming heavier through the afternoon and evening. In Pennsylvania, Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton and Honesdale could see roads quickly turn slick as snow intensifies Sunday night. Major corridors including I-81, I-84 and I-380 may become snow-covered, especially on bridges and elevated ramps.

Periods of moderate to heavy snow could reduce visibility below one mile at times, complicating both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Rural and higher-elevation roads in Susquehanna and Wyoming counties may become difficult to navigate.

Residents should limit non-essential travel during heavier snowfall, allow extra time for commuting and ensure vehicles are equipped with winter emergency supplies. Snow is expected to taper off Monday evening, but additional advisories or warnings may be issued as the storm track becomes clearer.
