Tulsa, Okla. – Slow-moving thunderstorms are dumping heavy rain across Osage County late Sunday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch through 7 a.m. Monday. The storms are expected to continue into the early morning hours, raising the risk of flash flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, repeated rounds of rainfall are producing excessive runoff that could overwhelm creeks, streams, and drainage systems. Drivers in Pawhuska and surrounding communities should avoid flooded roadways, as water levels can rise quickly and become dangerous.
Farther north, the National Weather Service in Wichita has extended a Flood Watch for much of central, south-central, and southeast Kansas, including Wichita, Salina, Hutchinson, El Dorado, and Arkansas City. Counties under the watch include Chase, Marion, Sedgwick, Cowley, Montgomery, and more.
Residents are advised to keep cell phones charged, monitor local alerts, and be prepared to move to higher ground if warnings are issued. Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters, as just a few inches can sweep vehicles away.
Flood Watches remain in effect until 7 a.m. Monday, with additional warnings possible if rainfall intensifies overnight.
