Tulsa, OK – Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon across northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas, with forecasters cautioning residents about brief heavy downpours, lightning, and gusty winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, storm chances range from 20 to 40 percent, with the highest risk centered near Bartlesville, Miami, and parts of northwest Arkansas. Severe weather is not anticipated, but officials warn that localized flooding may occur in areas that received heavier rain earlier this week.

Thunderstorms are most likely during the afternoon and early evening hours. Key hazards include cloud-to-ground lightning, short bursts of heavy rain, and isolated flooding. Residents are urged to remain indoors during lightning and to avoid flooded roadways.

After today, conditions are expected to turn dry and seasonable. Forecasts show a warming trend beginning Friday, with daytime highs climbing into the mid-80s through the weekend and early next week. Overnight lows will remain comfortable in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

The NWS says the upcoming stretch of calm weather should persist into next week, giving residents a break from recent unsettled conditions.
