CLEVELAND – A persistent early-winter storm continues to coat northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania in heavy, wet snow Monday, leading to slippery roads, spotty power outages, and reduced visibility across the region. Forecasters warn that the snow will intensify overnight, especially in Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties, where 3 to 5 inches of additional accumulation is expected by Tuesday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect through Tuesday morning and afternoon for much of northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania, including Cleveland, Akron, Medina, Warren, and Erie. The heaviest snow bands will set up near the Lake Erie shoreline, with snowfall rates up to 1 inch per hour during the late-night and early-morning hours.
The Ohio Department of Transportation reports snow-covered roads across portions of I-90, I-480, and I-76, while bridges and overpasses are turning icy. Winds up to 30 mph combined with the weight of wet snow could bring minor tree damage and scattered power outages, especially in wooded suburbs and rural corridors.
Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra time for both the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Snow is expected to taper gradually from west to east by midday Tuesday, with improving conditions by afternoon.
