Cleveland, Ohio – Unhealthy ozone levels will grip Northeast Ohio from midnight tonight through midnight Thursday, July 24, prompting an Air Quality Advisory across Cuyahoga, Lorain, Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula, Medina, Portage, and Summit counties.

According to the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), weather conditions are expected to trap pollutants, raising ground-level ozone to levels considered unsafe for sensitive groups. This includes children, seniors, and anyone with breathing problems, who are urged to limit outdoor activities and check current air readings at airnow.gov.

Communities from Cleveland and Akron to Mentor, Elyria, Medina, and Painesville may notice hazy skies and an increased risk for respiratory symptoms. Local agencies advise residents to avoid heavy outdoor exertion, keep windows closed, and run air conditioning in recirculation mode if possible. Extra caution is urged near busy roads or during the afternoon hours when ozone levels typically peak.

To help reduce air pollution, NOACA and local partners recommend cutting down on driving, postponing lawn mowing, and refueling vehicles after sunset. Commuters can find smarter travel options at gohiocommute.com/noaca and receive text alerts at enviroflash.info.

The advisory remains in effect until midnight Thursday, with additional alerts possible if stagnant weather continues.
