CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cooler air settling over northern Ohio will drop overnight temperatures into the 40s by midweek, marking the chilliest stretch so far this fall. Residents away from Lake Erie should expect their coldest readings early Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, lows Wednesday morning will hover near 50 degrees across most of the region, with Sandusky, Akron, and Mansfield falling to the upper 40s. The coldest conditions arrive Thursday morning, when widespread lows in the mid- to upper-40s are likely, especially across inland counties.
Areas immediately west of Cleveland and closer to Lake Erie will stay slightly milder thanks to the lake’s warmth, holding in the lower 50s. Still, drivers in rural counties like Medina, Wayne, and Ashland may see patchy fog during the early commute as cooler air settles into valleys.
Officials recommend dressing in layers and keeping an eye on pets and plants sensitive to the sudden temperature shift. With colder nights expected to persist through the week, Ohioans should prepare for furnace use to increase as October begins.
More seasonable daytime highs in the 60s are expected, but additional chilly mornings remain possible through the weekend.
