YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The first significant frost of the fall season is on the way for portions of northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania, with temperatures expected to dip into the mid-30s before sunrise Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Frost Advisory is in effect from midnight tonight through 9 a.m. EDT Thursday for Ashtabula Inland, Portage, Trumbull, Stark, and Mahoning counties in Ohio, along with Crawford and southern Erie counties in Pennsylvania. Clear skies and light winds will allow temperatures to fall low enough for frost to form on lawns, vehicles, and rooftops.
Communities such as Youngstown, Canton, Warren, and Ravenna are likely to wake up to frosty conditions, especially in rural valleys and sheltered neighborhoods. Farther east, patchy frost may develop around Meadville, Corry, and Edinboro in Pennsylvania. Residents along I-76 and I-80 should be prepared for reduced visibility and possible slick spots early Thursday morning.
The NWS advises residents to cover or bring in sensitive plants and flowers, disconnect outdoor hoses, and provide warm shelter for pets. Homeowners using early-season heating systems are also encouraged to check smoke detectors and furnace filters before colder weather sets in.
Temperatures will rebound into the lower 60s by Thursday afternoon under sunny skies. However, another cold morning is possible Friday as high pressure lingers across the region. The weekend should turn slightly milder, with dry weather holding through Saturday before clouds increase Sunday.
