CLEVELAND, Ohio – Drivers and commuters across northeast Ohio could face a wet and stormy commute late Wednesday as fall-like storms arrive. Strong downpours and possible thunderstorms may hit after dark, raising the risk of slick roads, especially along I-90 through Cleveland.
According to the National Weather Service, a line of showers and thunderstorms is expected to move in Wednesday night, September 3, with rain chances climbing to 70 percent. Rainfall totals could reach up to three-quarters of an inch in some areas, with heavier amounts possible in stronger storms. Gusty winds up to 14 mph will add to travel difficulties.
Cleveland, Parma, and Euclid should prepare for slower travel, especially near I-71 and I-480 interchanges. Low visibility and ponding water may create delays on secondary roads as well. Residents are urged to allow extra time for Wednesday night travel, keep devices charged, and secure outdoor items that could blow around in gusts.
Thursday remains unsettled, with showers continuing through the morning before conditions improve by afternoon. Highs will fall into the mid-60s, bringing the first taste of early fall weather for northeast Ohio. By Friday, skies will turn mostly sunny with highs in the low 70s, offering much calmer conditions for outdoor plans.
The weekend looks more cooperative for outdoor events and football games, though another chance of light showers lingers late Friday night into early Saturday.
Rain chances will taper off by Saturday morning, leaving behind a stretch of drier and seasonable September weather. Additional advisories are possible if thunderstorms redevelop.
