Cleveland, Ohio – A thin glaze of ice is expected to coat bridges and overpasses across northeast Ohio before sunrise, threatening slick travel through the peak of the Tuesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday for Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula Inland, Portage and Trumbull counties in Ohio, along with Crawford and southern Erie counties in northwest Pennsylvania. Ice accumulations are expected to remain around a light glaze, but even a few hundredths of an inch can create hazardous conditions.
Elevated stretches of Interstate 90 near Mentor and Ashtabula, along with portions of I-480 and Route 422 in Geauga and Portage counties, may freeze first. In Pennsylvania, bridges along Route 6 and I-79 near Meadville and Edinboro are especially vulnerable.
The Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission urge drivers to delay unnecessary travel and monitor conditions at OHGO.com. PennDOT officials advise checking 511PA.com for real-time updates.
Residents should watch for icy sidewalks and steps. Conditions are expected to improve after 10 a.m. as temperatures slowly rise, but isolated slick spots could linger into late morning.
