Cleveland, OH – The growing season is expected to come to an end for much of northeast Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania tonight as widespread frost and freezing temperatures move in, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

Forecasters have issued a Freeze Warning for inland areas away from Lake Erie, including parts of Ashtabula, Geauga, and Portage counties, as well as portions of northwest Pennsylvania. A Frost Advisory remains in effect for areas closer to the I-77 corridor and along the lakeshore where temperatures will stay slightly warmer.

According to the NWS, overnight lows are expected to range from 30 to 33 degrees across much of the interior region, with isolated pockets dipping into the upper 20s in sheltered valleys. These conditions will likely mark the first widespread freeze of the season for many inland communities.

Residents are urged to cover or bring in sensitive plants and outdoor items to prevent frost damage. The cold snap could officially end the growing season across parts of the region, which has so far avoided a hard freeze this fall.

Forecasters say temperatures will rebound slightly Monday afternoon but could fall near freezing again Monday night before a gradual midweek warm-up.
