Richmond, Va. – Southeastern Virginia will hold onto summer warmth Monday, but big changes arrive Tuesday as an autumn-like air mass settles over the region, bringing cool days and even chillier nights. A few isolated storms could fire up today over far southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina, but most areas remain dry.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, highs will shift from the upper 80s Monday into the upper 70s and low 80s by Tuesday, with much lower humidity making conditions feel crisp and comfortable. By Wednesday night, overnight lows could tumble into the upper 40s in parts of central Virginia, with much of the state dipping into the 50s.
Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and Chesapeake may still see scattered showers this evening, but drier conditions dominate the rest of the week. Cooler inland locations like Farmville and Charlottesville are expected to feel the sharpest nighttime chill, with residents urged to plan for extra layers by midweek.
The cool, dry pattern holds through at least Friday, providing relief from recent summer humidity. Outdoor plans, school sports, and evening commutes will benefit from the stretch of mild, rain-free weather.
