Tucumcari, NM – A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until noon MDT today for parts of northeast and east-central New Mexico, where visibility has dropped below one-quarter mile, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque.

The advisory covers Union, Harding, Quay, and Eastern San Miguel Counties, including major travel routes such as Interstate 40 and U.S. Highways 54, 56, and 87. Motorists in areas such as Tucumcari, Clayton, and Roy should prepare for rapidly changing visibility and slick road conditions from overnight moisture.

“Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous,” the NWS warned late Saturday. Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles when traveling through fog-covered areas.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve by late morning, though patchy fog may linger into early afternoon in valleys and low-lying areas.

This marks one of the first widespread fog events of the fall season across northeastern New Mexico, following a night of cooler temperatures and light winds.
