Montana – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across northeast Montana, with heavy snow creating hazardous travel conditions through Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, additional snowfall of 5 to 11 inches is expected across portions of northeast Montana. The warning continues until 8 a.m. MST Saturday, with snow affecting both daytime and overnight travel.
The warning covers Central and Southeast Phillips, Valley, Petroleum, Garfield, McCone, Dawson, Prairie, Wibaux, Northern Phillips, and Southwest Phillips counties. Communities included in the warning area range from Glasgow, Malta, and Fort Peck to Glendive, Circle, Terry, Wibaux, and Jordan, along with several surrounding towns.
Forecasters say roads will likely become slick and hazardous, particularly bridges and overpasses, where snow and ice tend to accumulate more quickly. Travel could become very difficult, especially during Friday morning and evening commute hours as snowfall continues.
Emergency officials warn that rapidly changing road conditions may reduce visibility and traction, increasing the risk of crashes and stranded vehicles. Motorists are urged to delay travel if possible, especially during periods of heavier snowfall.
For those who must travel, the National Weather Service advises carrying emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, in case vehicles become disabled or delays occur. Drivers can check the latest road conditions by dialing 511 for Montana’s road information system.
The storm may be particularly disruptive for commuters and freight traffic traveling across rural highways and open stretches prone to drifting snow.
Residents across northeast Montana should continue monitoring official weather updates and be prepared for prolonged winter driving hazards through early Saturday.
