Glasgow, Mont. — Dangerously cold wind chills are expected to continue across northeast Montana through Sunday afternoon, with the coldest conditions occurring this morning, according to the National Weather Service in Glasgow.

Wind chill values are forecast to approach -50 degrees in parts of the region, prompting an Extreme Cold Warning for far northeast Montana. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect for the remainder of northeast Montana.

At these temperatures, frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes, making prolonged outdoor exposure dangerous. The extreme cold may also pose risks to travelers, pets, and livestock.

Residents are urged to dress in multiple layers, including hats and gloves, and to limit time outdoors when possible. Those who must travel should carry extra blankets and emergency supplies in case of vehicle trouble.

This cold snap may also impact commuters, outdoor workers, and students, particularly during early morning hours when wind chills are lowest.

The National Weather Service advises continuing to monitor forecasts and alerts as conditions remain hazardous across the region.
