Northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois are facing a severe weather threat with heavy rain and potential flash flooding expected late tonight into early Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued warnings for damaging wind and a possible brief, weak tornado.

According to the National Weather Service, a stalled cold front will bring heavy rainfall beginning Tuesday night and continuing into early Wednesday. This weather system poses a significant risk for flash flooding, particularly in areas already saturated from recent rains. The public is advised to exercise extreme caution when driving at night, as flooded roads can be deceptively dangerous.

In addition to the rain, today’s forecast includes widespread heat and humidity, with heat index values ranging from 105 to 110 degrees. A cold front is expected to bring some relief tomorrow, though high heat will persist in the Ozarks. Residents should take precautions to stay hydrated and avoid strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to cool slightly by midweek, with temperatures in the mid-80s on Wednesday and Thursday. However, rain chances will continue, keeping the region alert for potential flooding.
