Queen City, Missouri – Light but persistent winter snow continues across Schuyler County this afternoon, creating slick travel conditions through mid-afternoon before tapering off. While accumulations remain modest, the timing is enough to impact local roads and secondary routes.
Snow will continue through about 4 p.m. CST, with additional accumulations up to one inch possible. Even small totals are causing problems as temperatures stay cold enough for snow to stick on untreated roads. The most impacted areas include Queen City, Lancaster, Downing, Glenwood, and Greentop, where visibility has periodically dropped and road surfaces have become snow-covered.
According to the National Weather Service office in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for Schuyler County until 4 p.m. CST. The advisory highlights slippery travel, especially on rural highways, bridges, and less-traveled county roads where treatment is limited. Snow intensity is expected to remain light, but steady enough to maintain slick conditions until it ends.
Drivers traveling on U.S. 136, Route D, Route F, and surrounding county roads should slow down and allow extra stopping distance. According to MoDOT, even brief snowfall events can quickly lead to crashes when pavement temperatures stay cold. Anyone heading out this afternoon should plan for reduced speeds and longer travel times.
Pedestrians should also use caution on sidewalks, parking lots, and steps, where snow can pack down and turn icy. This is especially important for older residents running errands during the afternoon hours.
Once the snow ends late this afternoon, temperatures will remain cold into the evening, allowing icy spots to linger into tonight. Crews are expected to continue monitoring conditions, but drivers should remain alert after sunset.
