Kirksville, MO– A major snowstorm is bringing hazardous conditions to northeast Missouri tonight through early Sunday, with totals of 8 to 10 inches expected across Adair, Scotland, and Schuyler counties and gusty winds leading to snow drifts and limited visibility.
According to the National Weather Service, snow began late Friday and will intensify throughout Saturday, with the heaviest bands hitting between 6 p.m. and midnight. Wind gusts of 25 to 30 mph may cause blowing and drifting snow, particularly on open roads and highways.
US-63, MO-6, MO-15, and Route 136 are expected to see the worst conditions, with slick, snow-covered pavement and low visibility during evening hours. Emergency management officials are urging residents in Kirksville, Memphis, and Lancaster to delay travel and prepare for difficult road conditions well into Sunday morning.
Snow will begin tapering off early Sunday, but lingering issues with icy roads and windblown drifts may persist into the day.
