DULUTH, Minn. – Residents across northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin should prepare for dangerous weather late tonight, as a line of severe storms is expected between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service warns of damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph, large hail, flash flooding, and a possible tornado during the overnight hours.

According to the Duluth office of the National Weather Service, the highest risk covers Duluth, Superior, Hibbing, and surrounding communities, with storms moving in from the west late tonight. The agency places the area under a “slight risk” (level 2 of 5) for severe weather, noting that scattered power outages, downed trees, and flooded roadways are possible before sunrise.

Drivers are urged to avoid late-night travel if possible, as low visibility and debris on roads may occur. Residents should secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and ensure weather alerts are enabled on mobile phones to receive overnight warnings.

The threat is expected to diminish after daybreak Saturday, but additional storms could redevelop over the weekend.
