Duluth, MN – Minnesota is set to experience severe weather conditions this weekend, with a significant risk of flash flooding and high temperatures. According to the US National Weather Service in Duluth, there is a 5% to 30% chance of flash flooding for parts of northeast Minnesota from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning. The greatest risk is anticipated north and west of the Iron Range, with rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches or more potentially causing minor flooding.
Potential hazards include ponding of water on roads and parking lots, isolated flash flooding, and rising river and stream levels that could lead to water over roads and possibly isolated road washouts.
In addition to the flash flooding risk, the region will also experience hot and muggy conditions. High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 80s to low 90s today, and mid-80s to around 90°F on Sunday. Heat indices will remain in the 90s for most of the weekend. Near-record warm low temperatures in the mid to upper 60s will offer little overnight relief from the heat.
