Shreveport, Louisiana – Showers are set to increase across southeast Louisiana today as a weak tropical disturbance drifts west across the northern Gulf, with a 30% chance of developing into a tropical system by week’s end.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the system will bring widespread rainfall to areas stretching from Toledo Bend through northeast Louisiana, including Natchitoches, Winnfield, and Monroe. Though storm chances taper off heading into the weekend, localized flash flooding remains a concern, especially in low-lying areas and poor-drainage zones.

Rain chances today top 40% in southeastern parishes like Grant, LaSalle, and Caldwell, while Shreveport and Bossier City sit near 10% to 20%. While the system is not expected to strengthen significantly, uncertainty in its path could influence rain totals and coverage through Friday.

Residents should avoid flooded roads and have devices charged in case of isolated power outages. This pattern is not unusual for July, but even weak systems in the Gulf can bring heavy tropical downpours inland.

Storm risk is expected to ease by late Friday, but the NWS warns additional advisories could follow if development increases.
