Topeka, KS – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for much of central and northeast Kansas from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, as a winter system brings 1 to 4 inches of snow and hazardous travel conditions throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Topeka, areas north of Interstate 70—including Manhattan, Marysville, Concordia, Seneca, and Hiawatha—could see 2 to 4 inches of accumulation, while locations south of I-70, such as Emporia, Topeka, and Lawrence, will likely receive 1 to 2 inches.

Snow is expected to begin before sunrise Monday and continue into the afternoon, making for slick roads and reduced visibility during both the morning and evening commutes. Major routes including I-70, U.S. 75, and K-177 may experience periods of snow-covered pavement and slower traffic.

Forecasters advise motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and check road conditions before traveling. The Kansas Department of Transportation provides live updates at 511.ksdot.org or by calling 511 statewide.

Snow is forecast to taper off by Monday evening, but temperatures will remain below freezing, keeping roads icy into Tuesday morning.
