Fort Wayne, Indiana – Sweater weather will have to wait. Fort Wayne is wrapping up September with a stretch of dry, sunny days and afternoon highs stuck in the 80s through Tuesday. Monday’s high could hit 85°F, pushing local temps nearly 10 degrees above average for late September.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a slow-moving ridge of high pressure is locking in clear skies and light winds, keeping conditions ideal for travel, outdoor work, and events through the early week. Winds remain calm, generally under 5 mph, but temperatures will peak in the mid-80s Monday before dipping closer to 78°F by Wednesday.

Drivers along US-30 and I-69 won’t face weather-related slowdowns through Tuesday, but sun glare may become a hazard during morning and late-day commutes. Pedestrians and cyclists should take sun protection seriously, especially during peak afternoon hours.

This unseasonably warm stretch won’t last long. By Wednesday—also the start of October—daytime highs fall to the mid-70s, with overnight lows bottoming out in the 40s for the first time this season. While no rain is in sight, cooler, more typical autumn weather is just days away.

There are no active watches or advisories at this time, but residents should stay weather-aware as October often brings rapid shifts in temperature and pattern.
