Chicago, Illinois – Showers and scattered thunderstorms will roll into northeast Illinois late Friday, bringing gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall that may linger into early next week. Drivers around Chicago could face slick roads Friday night as the first round of storms develops.

According to the National Weather Service in Romeoville, storm chances will increase late Friday evening and overnight. While severe weather is not expected, forecasters warn of gusts up to 20 mph and downpours capable of reducing visibility and creating ponding on major roadways, including I-90 and I-55.

Storm activity remains possible Saturday through Monday, with periods of showers and thunderstorms across Cook, DuPage, and Lake counties. Prolonged rain may impact evening commutes and outdoor events. Northwest Indiana, including Lake and Porter counties, will also see storm activity over the weekend.

Residents are advised to keep phones charged and avoid driving through flooded streets. Although forecasters don’t anticipate widespread severe weather, heavier pockets of rain could still disrupt travel and outdoor plans.

The unsettled pattern continues into midweek, with more showers possible by Wednesday.
