Chicago, IL – Residents across northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana are being advised to prepare for the possibility of heavy rainfall and localized flooding on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters report that showers and storms are expected to develop late Friday night, with the highest chance of activity Saturday. The potential for storms is 20–30% across the region, including urban areas where flooding risks are greater.

According to the National Weather Service Chicago office, any storms that do form could produce significant rainfall in a short amount of time. This may lead to localized flooding, especially in low-lying and poorly drained areas. The agency added that uncertainty remains in where the heaviest rain will fall, so residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts through the weekend.

Saturday’s high temperatures are expected to range from 81 to 90 degrees, with conditions returning to warm and mostly dry weather on Sunday and Monday. Highs will climb into the low 90s inland and the 70s near Lake Michigan early next week.

The National Weather Service is reminding the public to exercise caution if flooding occurs and to never attempt to drive through water-covered roads.
