JACKSONVILLE, FL – Waves crash against the First Coast this morning under a gray, humid sky, as red flags line beaches from Neptune to Ponte Vedra. Lifeguards warn swimmers to stay cautious—powerful rip currents and rough surf continue through today, marking the tail end of an active stretch of onshore flow.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, the Rip Current Statement remains in effect until 8 p.m. Monday for Duval, Nassau, and St. Johns counties. Southerly swells and gusty onshore winds will keep surf conditions dangerous along the Atlantic beaches. Boaters should use caution near inlets, especially around high tide this morning and again late afternoon.

By midmorning, inland skies will begin to clear as drier air edges in from the west. Highs reach the mid-70s under partly sunny skies, with lighter west winds developing by late day. Tuesday and Wednesday bring classic fall sunshine—warm afternoons near 83 degrees and crisp, pleasant evenings in the lower 60s.

Humidity drops notably midweek, giving North Florida its first real taste of late October comfort. By Thursday, winds shift north, and highs ease back into the mid-70s. Longer-range models suggest a stronger cold front could arrive next weekend, bringing the season’s first true cool-down and perhaps a brief early fall cold snap for inland areas.

Beachgoers should continue to swim near lifeguards, heed flag warnings, and avoid venturing into rough surf. For now, it’s a golden stretch of sunshine ahead once seas calm—a perfect setup for outdoor sports, patio dining, and pre-Halloween decorating before next week’s stronger front.
