Jacksonville, FL – A surge of heat and humidity will fuel strong thunderstorms across the Jacksonville area Monday afternoon, with the heat index climbing near 105°F before storms arrive. The National Weather Service warns of heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., making for a dangerous combination of heat stress and storm hazards.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, storm coverage is expected to increase quickly Monday, especially along and west of I-95. Rainfall amounts could exceed an inch in some neighborhoods, with isolated higher totals where storms linger. South and west Duval County, as well as nearby Clay and Nassau counties, may see the most intense activity.

Commuters and outdoor workers should prepare for sudden road ponding and reduced visibility. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat and lightning hours, stay hydrated, and secure loose outdoor items ahead of the storms.

While Tuesday will bring a brief lull in morning activity, storms are likely to redevelop by afternoon. Dangerous heat is expected to persist through midweek, with daily highs in the lower to mid-90s and oppressive humidity.
