Cape Charles, Virginia – Travel across Northampton County could become very difficult as blizzard conditions with wind gusts up to 55 mph and up to 10 inches of snow continue through 7 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a Blizzard Warning remains in effect for Northampton County on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Snow totals are expected to range from 4 to 10 inches, with the heaviest bands producing rapidly changing road conditions. Strong northwest winds gusting to 55 mph will create blowing and drifting snow, especially along exposed stretches near the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic coastline.

Visibility could drop sharply at times, particularly during heavier snow bands late Sunday night into Monday. Roads including U.S. Route 13 and Route 184 near Cape Charles may become snow-covered and hazardous during both the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Power outages are possible as strong winds stress tree limbs and utility lines. Officials urge residents to restrict travel to emergencies only and monitor conditions by calling 511 for updated road information.

Blizzard conditions are expected to persist through Monday evening, with cleanup and lingering travel impacts likely even after snowfall begins to taper.
