Fort Worth, Texas – A dangerous winter storm is set to bring dangerous travel conditions and has potential to create widespread power outages to North Texas starting Friday night, with ice and snow totals climbing through Sunday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Friday to noon Sunday. Ice accumulations are expected to range between a quarter to half an inch, with localized totals near three-quarters of an inch. Snow and sleet could pile up to 3 inches, with areas along the Red River potentially seeing more than 5 inches.

Impacts are expected across a broad swath of North and North-Central Texas, including Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, McKinney, Sherman, and Paris. The warning stretches along key travel routes including I-20, I-30, I-35, I-35E, US-75, and Highway 287, where travel may become impossible due to ice and blowing snow.

Winds could down tree limbs and power lines, compounding the threat with long-lasting outages. Residents are urged to prepare now: charge all devices, gather supplies, and avoid all non-essential travel.

Cold air will hold steady into early Sunday, and further alerts are possible if snow bands intensify or ice totals trend higher.
