Dallas, Texas – Life-threatening cold continues across much of North and Central Texas, with dangerously low wind chills creating hazardous conditions for residents through early Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday for the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, surrounding North Texas counties, and much of Central Texas. Wind chills are expected to drop as low as 10 below zero in North Texas, with parts of Central Texas seeing wind chills near 5 below during the coldest overnight and early morning hours.
Across the state, the prolonged cold is increasing risks for hypothermia, frostbite, and infrastructure strain. In Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Frisco, and Denton, residents are urged to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure and prepare for frozen pipes. Travel conditions may deteriorate overnight as cold pavement and bridges remain vulnerable. Farther south, communities including Waco, Temple, Killeen, Corsicana, and Lampasas are also facing dangerous wind chills rarely seen in Central Texas.
Emergency officials stress that exposed skin can suffer frostbite in minutes under these conditions. Residents should dress in multiple layers, cover hands and faces, and ensure pets are brought indoors. Extra caution is advised with space heaters, and outdoor heating sources should never be used inside enclosed spaces.
Temperatures are expected to slowly recover Tuesday after sunrise, though officials warn additional cold weather advisories could follow. The Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect through Tuesday morning.
