Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas – Rain taps against windows as temperatures hover near freezing, but conditions are set to change fast. Roads already feel slick, and the air carries a sharper bite as a dangerous winter system moves in.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from this evening through Sunday midday, alongside an Extreme Cold Warning lasting into Monday. Freezing rain, sleet, and snow are expected, with snow and sleet totals between 1 and 4 inches across parts of North Texas. Ice accumulations could reach one-quarter to one-half inch, especially near and north of the Red River.

Winds will increase, adding stress to ice-coated trees and power lines. Sporadic power outages are possible. Travel may become nearly impossible during heavier precipitation periods. TxDOT urges drivers to delay travel and monitor road conditions closely.

Temperatures continue falling tonight, settling into the teens by early Sunday. Wind chills may dip near 10 degrees below zero by late Sunday night. Frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

Sunday stays cold and gray, with lingering sleet or snow showers. Any melting during the day is expected to flash freeze after sunset, creating icy bridges and overpasses. Crews will focus on major highways, but secondary roads may remain hazardous.

By Monday, skies clear but the cold deepens. Highs struggle to reach the upper 20s. Conditions slowly improve Tuesday as sunshine returns and temperatures rebound into the 40s.

If travel is unavoidable, carry emergency supplies and allow extra time. Conditions may deteriorate quickly after sunset. Are you seeing icing where you live?
