Fort Worth, TX – The National Weather Service is warning residents across North and Central Texas to prepare for strong and gusty winds following Tuesday’s cold front, which will bring the most blustery conditions of the fall season so far.
Forecasters say winds will strengthen late Tuesday and persist through Wednesday, with sustained speeds of 20–25 mph and gusts reaching 35–40+ mph in many areas. Both North Texas and western Central Texas have a 50–70% chance of 40 mph wind gusts on Wednesday.
The highest wind speeds are expected Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening, particularly across open terrain and elevated areas. The NWS cautions that Wind Advisories may be issued, depending on final forecast trends.
“These gusts could easily knock over lightweight outdoor decorations or unsecured items,” forecasters said. Residents are encouraged to secure Halloween displays, trash bins, and patio furniture ahead of the strong winds.
Temperatures will also cool sharply behind the front, with highs in the upper 50s to low 60s by midweek.
Drivers of high-profile vehicles should use extra caution, especially on east-west highways where crosswinds will be strongest.
The windy pattern is expected to ease gradually by Thursday as calmer, cooler air settles into the region.
