Dallas–Fort Worth, Texas – A sharp Arctic blast is set to arrive by late Friday, raising the risk for dangerous cold, icy roads, and potential power and pipe issues across North and Central Texas heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, an Arctic air mass will push into the region Friday night, dropping temperatures below freezing across much of North and Central Texas through at least Sunday afternoon. Some locations may not rise above freezing again until early next week. Along with the cold, a mix of winter precipitation is possible, including freezing rain, sleet, and snow.
The greatest potential for snow impacts currently appears north and northwest of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, including areas near Graham and Sherman. Farther south and east, including Waco, Killeen, Canton, and Palestine, ice is the primary concern, which could create slick roads and isolated infrastructure issues. Overnight lows Saturday night may fall to 10 degrees or colder in parts of North Texas.
Officials urge residents to prepare now by protecting the four Ps: people, pets, pipes, and plants. Locate water shut-off valves, drip faucets if needed, and avoid travel during icy periods. Confidence is increasing that winter impacts will occur, though exact timing and amounts remain uncertain. Additional advisories or watches are likely as the weekend approaches.
