Dallas, TX – Temperatures are set to surge into the mid-90s across North Texas this weekend, creating early-season heat risks that could impact outdoor plans and push record highs to the brink by Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, highs will climb steadily from the upper 80s Thursday into the low to mid-90s by Saturday and Sunday, running more than 20 degrees above normal for mid-March. Dallas-Fort Worth is expected to reach 95°F both Saturday and Sunday, while Waco and Killeen could also hit 95°F. Sherman and Denison will see slightly lower but still extreme readings near 91–92°F.

The heat will affect major metro areas along I-35 and I-20, where prolonged sun exposure and dry conditions could increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially during peak afternoon hours between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. With no rain expected, soils and vegetation will continue to dry, raising early-season fire concerns across parts of North Texas.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat. Never leave children or pets in vehicles, where temperatures can exceed 120°F within minutes.

This stretch of record-challenging warmth will persist through Sunday evening, with additional advisories possible if temperatures trend even higher. Cooler conditions may return early next week, but above-normal warmth is expected to linger.
