Dallas, Texas – Severe storms are developing across North Texas, and residents in Collin, Grayson, and neighboring counties could see damaging winds and large hail by mid-afternoon Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 311, in effect until 4 p.m. CDT.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, the watch includes Collin, Cooke, Delta, Fannin, Grayson, Hopkins, Hunt, Lamar, and Montague counties. Thunderstorms in the region may bring wind gusts up to 70 mph and hail as large as quarters, posing a threat to vehicles, power lines, and unsecured outdoor items.

Cities such as McKinney, Sherman, Paris, and Gainesville are in the direct path of the strongest storms. TXDOT is urging drivers to slow down on slick roads and stay alert for downed trees or sudden lane closures. Power outages may occur if lines are brought down by gusty winds.

Residents should avoid unnecessary travel this afternoon and keep mobile devices charged. Have multiple ways to receive warnings, including NOAA weather radios and emergency alerts.

Storms are expected to weaken after 4 p.m., but additional watches could be issued if activity intensifies or shifts southeast.
