FORT WORTH, Texas – Residents across Dallas-Fort Worth face a dangerous combination of extreme heat and poor air quality through Wednesday, with both a Heat Advisory and Ozone Action Day in effect. Afternoon highs are expected to climb near 98 degrees, with heat index values reaching 105.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the Heat Advisory covers much of north central and northeast Texas, including Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Rockwall, and Kaufman counties. The advisory remains in place until 7 p.m. Wednesday, urging people to avoid prolonged outdoor activity. Officials warn that hot temperatures paired with high humidity could trigger heat exhaustion or even heat stroke.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality also issued an Ozone Action Day for the metro area Wednesday. Stagnant conditions are expected to trap pollutants, increasing ground-level ozone levels to unhealthy ranges. Officials recommend limiting driving, avoiding idling in drive-thru lines, and carpooling to reduce emissions. Sensitive groups, including children, older adults, and people with respiratory issues, are advised to limit outdoor exposure.

Residents are urged to drink water, wear light clothing, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Both heat and ozone conditions are expected to ease slightly by Thursday as temperatures dip closer to the mid-90s.
