Dallas, Texas – Residents across North and Central Texas are on high alert Sunday as a Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m., with fast-developing thunderstorms threatening to inundate city streets and low-lying areas. Urban flooding, road closures, and dangerous conditions at low-water crossings are possible, especially in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, Waco, and surrounding communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, the flood watch covers more than 30 counties—including Dallas, Denton, Collin, Grayson, McLennan, Ellis, and Milam—where scattered storms could drop 2 to 4 inches of rain in some areas. Most locations are expected to see at least a quarter to half an inch of rain, but even brief heavy downpours may quickly overwhelm drainage in cities like Plano, Waxahachie, Temple, and Greenville.

Creeks, rivers, and streams are at risk of rapid rises, and officials urge residents to avoid driving through flooded roadways, especially near busy routes such as I-35, US 75, and I-20. Urban neighborhoods and poor-drainage spots are particularly vulnerable, with recent rains already saturating the ground. Emergency agencies recommend charging mobile devices, preparing for possible power outages, and postponing non-essential travel.

Flooding of roads and homes can develop with little warning, and high water may persist into the night in flood-prone spots. The National Weather Service warns that additional flood advisories or warnings could be issued if rainfall intensifies.

Flood Watch remains in effect through 7 p.m. Sunday. Monitor local alerts and stay off flooded roads—more updates will follow as conditions develop.
