Dallas, Texas – Urban streets and low-lying roads across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex are flooding rapidly Saturday as slow-moving thunderstorms dump up to 3 inches of rain in under two hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 2:45 p.m., impacting Dallas, Collin, Rockwall, southeastern Denton, and northwestern Kaufman counties. Radar indicated intense downpours beginning around 11:30 a.m., with flooding either already underway or expected to begin shortly.

Emergency responders are urging drivers to avoid travel if possible. In high-traffic areas such as Interstate 35E near downtown Dallas and stretches of U.S. 75 near Plano, standing water may overwhelm drainage systems. Rockwall, McKinney, Mesquite, and Cedar Hill are also seeing widespread ponding and rising runoff levels near creeks.

Motorists should never attempt to cross flooded roadways—“Turn around, don’t drown” remains the official safety guidance. Areas with historically poor drainage, such as parts of Irving and Duncanville, may experience flash flooding with little warning.

Rain is expected to taper by late afternoon, but saturated ground could lead to residual flooding and road closures into Saturday evening. Additional alerts may follow if rain bands persist or shift westward.
