Fort Worth, TX – Fire officials are warning of an elevated wildfire risk across parts of North and Central Texas on Sunday, Oct. 12, as dry and breezy conditions persist west of the I-35 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, south winds between 10 and 15 mph, gusting up to 20 mph, combined with low humidity levels of 20–30%, will create conditions favorable for grass fires from Graham to Killeen. The agency advises residents to avoid outdoor burning and to take extra precautions with vehicles and equipment that could spark fires.

“Secure tow chains, never park on tall grass, and properly dispose of cigarette butts,” forecasters urged in Saturday’s update.

Weekend highs are expected to reach the low 90s in Graham, Cisco, and the Dallas–Fort Worth area, with temperatures remaining in the upper 80s across Central Texas. The dry pattern will continue into next week, with no rainfall in the forecast for at least seven days.

The weather service said the region will remain warm and dry through Friday, with highs ranging from 86 to 91 degrees and overnight lows in the upper 50s to mid-60s.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant for fire danger signs and to follow local burn restrictions.
