Duluth, MN – Residents in northern Minnesota should prepare for severe weather starting tonight, as a major storm system moves into the area. Heavy rain, strong winds, and the potential for snow midweek are expected to create hazardous conditions through Wednesday. A Wind Advisory has been issued, with gusts potentially reaching up to 35 mph overnight.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring 1-2 inches of rain starting Monday night, peaking early Tuesday. Higher amounts, up to 4 inches, are possible along the North Shore. Winds will increase overnight, becoming strongest by Tuesday morning, impacting areas along I-35 and local highways. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of high winds.
Tuesday will remain breezy, with continued rainfall throughout the day. Rain will transition to a rain-snow mix Tuesday night as colder air moves into the region. By Wednesday, light snow accumulation of up to an inch is likely, with the highest totals expected in northern Wisconsin’s Gogebic Range.
Looking ahead, temperatures will dip below freezing by Wednesday night, with wind chills creating bitter cold conditions. Thursday brings a slight chance of additional rain, but conditions are expected to clear by Friday.
