Shreveport, LA – Residents across North Louisiana and East Texas will see another swing in temperatures this weekend, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of both heat and growing drought risk.

According to the US National Weather Service Shreveport, conditions will be pleasant Friday night, with lows falling into the upper 50s and lower 60s. However, hot and dry weather will return Saturday, October 4, with afternoon highs climbing into the upper 80s and near 90 degrees across the region.

The agency also cautioned that above-normal probabilities for below-average rainfall are forecast through mid-October. This extended dry spell is expected to impact Deep East Texas and North Louisiana, raising the likelihood of rapid onset drought conditions.

Maps released Friday show widespread dryness extending through October 17, with below-normal rainfall probabilities stretching across the southern United States. NWS officials note that the lack of rainfall could quickly lead to soil moisture deficits, affecting agriculture and increasing wildfire risk in some areas.

Residents are advised to conserve water where possible and remain alert for updated forecasts, particularly if drought conditions intensify.
