White Plains, New York – A long-duration snow event will sweep across the Lower Hudson Valley and parts of northern New Jersey early Tuesday, creating slippery roads and potentially slowing both the morning and evening commutes from Rockland to western Passaic County.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. until 10 p.m. Tuesday. Most locations in Putnam, Rockland, and western Passaic counties will see 3 to 5 inches of accumulation, with roads becoming snow-covered quickly as temperatures hold near freezing.
Drivers along the Palisades Interstate Parkway, the New York State Thruway, and Route 202 should expect reduced visibility and slick surfaces through much of the day. Snow will fall steadily after sunrise and continue into the evening, making travel difficult for those heading to and from work or school. Bridges and overpasses will glaze first, increasing risk during the busiest hours.
Transportation officials urge motorists to slow down, allow extra braking distance, and use caution on untreated roads. Pedestrians should also watch for icy steps and sidewalks.
Snow will taper late Tuesday night, though lingering slick spots may persist into early Wednesday. The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 10 p.m. Tuesday.
