Wallace, ID – A prolonged winter weather event is setting up across the Central Panhandle Mountains, where the National Weather Service in Spokane has issued both a Winter Weather Advisory through 4 AM Friday and a Winter Storm Watch beginning late tonight and continuing into Saturday afternoon.
According to forecasters, snow totals are expected to reach 2 inches in valley areas and 4 to 8 inches in the mountains by Friday morning. Heavier snow is likely to follow as the storm intensifies Friday through Saturday, with 5 to 13 inches possible above 3,000 feet — particularly around Lookout Pass, Dobson Pass, and Fourth of July Pass.
Drivers should plan for snow-covered roads and reduced visibility, especially on steep and curving mountain routes. The heaviest snowfall is forecast to impact Interstate 90 over Lookout Pass, where travel may become difficult or hazardous at times.
The NWS advises motorists to slow down, carry winter gear, and check current conditions before traveling. Road updates are available by dialing 511 in Idaho or visiting official state travel sites.
Forecasters note that snow may ease slightly by Saturday evening as the system moves east, but cold temperatures and slick roads are expected to linger.
