Greenville, South Carolina – A blistering stretch of heat is settling over the Carolinas and north Georgia just in time for summer, with temperatures soaring into the upper 90s and heat indices pushing past 100°F through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, highs will climb steadily across the region beginning Sunday and peak Monday through Wednesday. Cities including Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson could see consecutive days near or above 97°F, with humidity amplifying the heat risk. Elberton, Georgia, is expected to reach 98°F by Tuesday, while Asheville and Hendersonville hover in the low to mid-90s.
The heat wave will especially affect lowland and Piedmont areas east of the Blue Ridge, while mountain regions see slightly cooler — but still above-average — conditions. Burnsville, NC, remains the exception, staying in the upper 80s midweek.
Residents should limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Air conditioning use may strain local power grids, so energy conservation is encouraged.
The heat and humidity are forecast to linger into late next week. Additional advisories may be issued if heat index values exceed 105°F in certain counties.
