ATLANTA, Ga. – Drivers in metro Atlanta may face reduced visibility during the Thursday morning commute as patchy dense fog lingers through 9 a.m. across north and central Georgia. Later in the day, attention shifts to worsening air quality and the potential for afternoon thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, a Code Orange Air Quality Alert is in effect for Atlanta through Thursday. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources warns that ground-level ozone will make conditions unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children, older adults, and those with heart or lung disease. Officials recommend limiting strenuous outdoor activity in the late afternoon and evening hours.

Thunderstorm chances return between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday and could continue Friday and Saturday. While severe weather is not expected, brief downpours may impact travel across Fulton, Cobb, DeKalb, and surrounding counties. Additional storms could develop again Tuesday.

Residents are advised to allow extra travel time during the foggy morning commute, avoid prolonged outdoor exertion during peak ozone hours, and monitor local updates heading into the weekend.
