ATLANTA, Ga. – Dangerous heat and scattered storms will build across Georgia this week, with conditions expected to worsen by Monday afternoon. Drivers and outdoor workers may face triple-digit heat index values and a growing risk of storms that could bring heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and gusty winds.
According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Monday’s high will reach the low 90s in Atlanta, but it will feel closer to 100. Afternoon thunderstorms are possible, especially north of the metro, with isolated cells capable of producing 45 mph winds and small hail.
The heat will remain a concern through midweek as highs in central Georgia push into the mid-90s. North Georgia communities, including Gainesville and Dahlonega, could see pop-up thunderstorms daily, with rainfall rates strong enough to briefly flood low-lying roads.
Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and seek shelter if storms approach. Lightning will be a particular hazard for those at pools, parks, or outdoor events.
Conditions remain unsettled through Saturday, with storm chances each afternoon and evening. More advisories could be issued if stronger systems develop.
