Atlanta, GA – Dry air and sunshine blanket metro Atlanta this Friday morning, but forecasters warn of a growing fire danger as humidity levels drop sharply through the day. The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a Special Weather Statement for much of north and central Georgia, including the Atlanta metro area, due to high fire danger conditions expected this afternoon and evening.

Relative humidity may dip below 25% for several hours Friday, especially along and north of I-20. With light north winds gusting up to 18 mph, any outdoor burn could spread quickly in the dry air. Residents are urged to delay burning or use extreme caution if they must be outdoors with open flames or equipment that can spark.

Friday will otherwise be sunny and mild, with highs near 73°F. Saturday follows with bright skies and light winds, offering another comfortable day for fall festivals, tailgates, and yard work—but the air will remain quite dry.

By Sunday, clouds begin to build from the west as a moisture surge ends the dry streak. A few scattered showers could reach the area by Sunday evening, expanding into widespread rain Monday. Temperatures will fall into the upper 50s to low 60s early next week.

To be fair, this pattern marks a welcome cooldown after weeks of warmth—but the fire risk today and Saturday serves as a reminder that autumn’s transition brings both beauty and hazards to north Georgia’s hills and valleys.
