Atlanta, Georgia – North Georgia residents will feel a sharp temperature divide over the next 24 hours as a shallow wedge of cool air settles in, holding highs in the 50s and low 60s while southern parts of the state remain in the 70s.

According to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, high pressure over the Mid-Atlantic is funneling cooler, cloudier air into north Georgia through Tuesday. The wedge pattern will keep skies mostly cloudy and temperatures suppressed across metro Atlanta and Athens before warmer air returns midweek.

Highs Monday reached 70° in Atlanta, but Tuesday drops to 63°. Athens cools from 67° to 62°. Meanwhile, Columbus and Macon stay milder, with Tuesday highs in the low 70s. By Wednesday, the wedge breaks down and temperatures rebound quickly — Atlanta climbs to 78°, Athens to 77°, and central Georgia pushes near 80°.

The biggest impacts will be persistent cloud cover and a noticeable chill compared to southern counties. Morning commuters should expect gray skies and cooler air through Tuesday afternoon.

Warmer, sunnier conditions return statewide by Wednesday as the wedge weakens and southerly flow takes over.
